I'm not remotely what you'd call a person built for running. My legs are short, my lungs are weak, and I just l know I sound like a herd of buffalo when I'm coming up behind someone on a trail. In all, you could say I'm not fleet of foot. However, I love the experience of running.
I had gotten pretty good at covering 30 miles a week prior to hurting my back and being out of commission for 4 months. I had even done a 50 mile run in April 2014 at my height of accomplishment. Once I hurt my back that was all over and now I'm back to square one, carrying an additional 15 pounds on my frame. Such is life.
Mobile is a beautiful town with tons of great parks of differing lengths and atmospheres. Sitting on a bay, the opportunities to run on the water abound. Having just moved here in November 2014, this is a perfect opportunity to get back on the horse and find a new running goal.
Of course, running is not only a solitary sport, so amid all of my park and trail runs, I am going to take part in every group run that I can. I will update on those as well.
I welcome anyone to please interact with me with regards to the trails I am running, some good other opportunities, or to take part in some runs with me as well. By the end of the year, I am hoping this blog will act as a great reference for someone looking for doing some runs in the Mobile area, offering insights and whatever else I can provide.
And in case anyone is wondering - as the crow flies, 2015 miles is the flight distance from Mobile to San Francisco. Much less intimidating if you look at it in those terms.
This challenge begins on Thursday, January 1, 2015. Not going to be easy, but will most assuredly be worth it.
